Dr. Francisco Rojas AravenaRector of the University for Peace
H.E. Mr. Amr Abdellatif AboulattaPermanent Observer of the African Union United Nations Office at Geneva
Privacy is as a basic, fundamental human right. It is also an
endangered right. New digital technologies track and scrutinize us all
at this age of surveillance capitalism (Zuboff, 2018). The
digital economy considers every click, search or like as an asset to be
monetized. Our lives, reflected in cyberspace, are plundered for
behavioral data for the sake of a system that converts our freedom into
profit. We are quietly being domesticated into accepting as normal that
decision rights vanish before we even know that there is a decision to
make.
A new awareness infused by a human-rights based approach that consider each individual “netizen”
as a dignified moral being, worth of respect, is required. Otherwise,
our connectivity will continue to offer a perverse amalgam of
empowerment inextricably layered with diminishment.
For these reasons, the Foundation OISTE, – building upon the various
resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly and the Human Rights
Council touching on the protection and promotion of the right to privacy
in the digital age – has set up a panel to address, inter alia, the
following issues:
Identifying and clarifying principles, standards and best
practices regarding the promotion and protection of the human right to
privacy
Reinforcing the principles of non-arbitrariness,
lawfulness, legality, necessity and proportionality in communications
surveillance by the State.
Ensuring that profiling, automated
decision-making and machine-learning technologies do proceed in
accordance to agreed safeguards and do not affect the enjoyment of human
rights
Introducing a gender perspective and ensuring that there
exists effective domestic oversight and remedies for the violation of
the human right to privacy
Addressing the issue of personal data
management: often individuals do not provide their free, explicit and
informed consent to the re-use, sale or multiple re-sales of their
personal data
Addressing the issue of human rights impacts of
artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on examples of
discrimination and bias
The OISTE Foundation signed The International Principles on the
Application of Human Rights to Communications Surveillance right after
they were launched at the 24th session of the UN Human Rights Council
in Geneva in 2013. OISTE invites other organizations to join: https://necessaryandproportionate.org/

With the emergence of COVID19, the world is experiencing unprecedented challenges that could erase all of the 4th Industrial Revolution developments. The pandemic has profoundly impacted the ongoing digital transformation by accelerating the need for countries and individuals to start adopting digital technologies to ensure their basic well-being, and future productivity.
This webinar is co-organized by WISekey, OISTE.ORG and the Trust protocol Association. The purpose of the Trust Protocol Association is to establish a new Trust Protocol for the Internet to create a new Global Trust platform by combining traditional Cryptographic Trust Models with distributed blockchain ledgers. The mission of the Association is to create an ecosystem of governmental, technology and business partners, where each partner represents a node with the possibility of having multiple nodes per country.
How to protect Consumers and Brands to stay resilient during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Agenda
There are many threats to the makers of luxury goods, licensed sports apparel, wines & spirits, printer ink cartridges, batteries or other valuable products. Counterfeit goods rob them of legitimate profit. Counterfeit products also often lead to bad user experience, damages and even potential health issues Tracking and tracing products through the supply chain is extremely complex and even if their authentic goods make it to their retail locations safe, they still need to find unique ways to engage the end-customer and win their business. So far, the choices have been to protect goods with one technology and attract customers with another disconnected one.
What can brands do to protect themselves? – Protecting brand equity and revenue while creating new connections with end customers – Blockchain technology can be very effective as the trusted cloud-based ledger ensures that the identity of the product can’t be duplicated, manipulated or faked, and increased visibility in parts of the supply chain promotes an unprecedented level of trust. It means governments can better protect citizens, while business partners can be certain trading documents are real. Consumers can check the quality and provenance of products, and banks can reduce processing time. And, it’s all paperless. Combining the blockchain technology together with our WISeAuthentic PKI platform, leverage even further the unified way to shield these brands from the harmful effects of illicit trade, while enhancing transparency into their end consumers and the entire ecosystem.

After completing his PhD thesis in Computer Science, Pierre joined IBM almost 20 years ago. That was the time when organisations struggled to adopt the Internet and get the benefit of this change in perspective. Then, when Artificial Intelligence, Mobile as well as Cloud and to some extend Quantum changed again the way organisation had to adapt to changing ecosystems, Pierre helped them to pave their ways to get the most of each of these evolutions and moreover supported them to govern these changes.
Nowadays, Pierre focuses on Blockchain for the Swiss market and as always, he is sharing his experience and helps any organisation from the startup to NGOs via multinational companies to embrace this radical change in this world in motion. His vision is to make blockchain simple for anyone to get benefit of it.
Pierre’s motto is “No one is immune to a good idea”, meaning that anyone should accept what the other has to offer on one side and one the other side that sharing is the way moving onward.
